It all began with goats.
Two things led me to border collies:
1. I was tired of chasing goats.
2. I was inspired by the talented sheepdogs and handlers at the Soldier Hollow Classic Trial.
I’ve owned goats my whole life and after watching the Soldier Hollow trial, I knew I needed a border collie. Not long after watching the trial, I got online and found a $50 border collie puppy from a working ranch.
This puppy grew up to be a dog that taught me a lot and was hard to train. This led me to finding a mentor, Robin Brown. I’m eternally grateful for everything she has taught me, but even moreso, our friendship.
My second dog is the locally famous, BC Skye. I trained Skye….no, she trained me. This dog gave me the confidence and introduced me to real working border collies that can trial. Together we were the 2023 Mountain States Stockdog Association National Cattle Champions, Sheep Champions and Ultimate Stockdog Champions. Her unwavering ability to compete and consistently win has made me hold other dogs to that standard and has influenced how I train. She is the core of my program.
I grazed 200 goats on noxious weed and fire mitigation projects for some time. This couldn’t have been done as efficiently without my dogs.
Now I run only a smaller herd of registered goats and a small herd of hair sheep, leaving me more time to train and compete with my dogs.
I thoroughly enjoy educating people on the usefulness of a good working dog on a farm or ranch setting. I also really enjoy teaching others how to train their dog and how to compete in trials and be competitive.
